SOURCE NOTES / CMS NPPES
Public data, narrow claims.
NPI Roster uses FOIA-disclosable provider information published through the CMS NPI Registry API.
What a result means
A match means the submitted identifier passed the NPI checksum and a corresponding public NPPES record was returned when the validation ran. Enriched names, taxonomy, addresses, status, and dates come from that public record.
What it does not mean
NPI issuance and an NPPES record do not establish licensure, credentialing, board certification, good standing, exclusion or sanction status, enrollment, network participation, or eligibility. This service does not provide medical or legal advice.
Freshness and corrections
NPPES information is reported by providers or authorized parties and can be incomplete or outdated. Use the validation timestamp and last-updated field. Providers should correct their source record through official NPPES channels.
API and bulk data
Interactive checks use the public Registry API with local format validation, deduplication, caching, controlled concurrency, and retries. Future higher-volume processing can use CMS monthly replacement and weekly incremental dissemination files behind the same provider-data interface.
